If you own the Galaxy A5 from Samsung, then you will be pleased to learn that the first-gen model of the robust handset is finally benefiting from the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update.

Samsung has started pushing out the over-the-air (OTA) software update for the 2015 model of the Galaxy A5 in select markets, which brings the handset from Android Lollipop to Marshmallow.

The update is presently being rolled out in select markets according to a report from SamMobile.

"Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is now rolling out for the Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU) in several markets across Europe and has even been released in South Africa," notes the publication.

The update has the build number A500FUXXU1CPG2 and brings not only new features, but also includes the latest security patch from Google.

The successor of the midrange Galaxy A5 - the 2016 model which was introduced in December 2015 along with the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7 - received the Android Marshmallow update earlier in June this year. The predecessor of the smartphone follows in its footsteps.

The first-gen Galaxy A5 was introduced with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. However, in May 2015 it was updated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Now, nearly eight months after Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Samsung smartphone has finally gotten a taste of the software.

What Does The Update Bring?

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2015) users will benefit from a slew of Marshmallow features such as Google Now on Tap, the Doze Mode that optimizes battery life, revamped app permissions, DND mode, improved boot security, support for additional dialects, silent mode for profile and more.

Additionally, the first-gen Galaxy A5 also receives the lates security patches from Google in this update, along with an improved TouchWiz UI.

When Will I Receive The Update?

Since the Marshmallow update for the Galaxy A5 is being pushed out in phases, it may take some time before it makes its way to your device. One must remember that the OTA software update is currently only being rolled out in Europe and South Africa.

When Will Other Regions Get It?

Samsung has not spilled the beans on when the software update will make its way to other countries. However, considering the firmware has been released in Germany, the UK, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Poland, to name a few, it could soon make its way to other parts of the world where the handset is available.

To manually check if your SM-A500FU Galaxy A5 model has received the OTA update, go to Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Check for Updates. Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and the smartphone has sufficient battery before you begin the download.
