Google Nexus 6 owners worldwide started encountering data connection issues in early August. Google has now confirmed that it has released a fix to the problem.

Nexus 6 owners across the world experienced LTE data connection drops when activating GPS on their phones. Initially, it seemed to be an issue with T-Mobile subscribers in the United States. However, Nexus 6 owners on other carriers in the United States such as Cricket Wireless also experienced the problem.

Nexus 6 owners in several other carriers across the world such as Videotron, Telus and more in Canada, Boost Mobile, Telstra and Optus in Australia, Vodafone in Germany and more also reported of data outage issues due to GPS.

Many Nexus 6 customers took to social media and complained of the data connection issues affecting their smartphones.

"This just started happening yesterday. No new software for quite a while, so I'm just dumbfounded. I wiped the phone entirely (factory reset) and chose to not reinstall anything (start from scratch). Installed Waze, fired it up, lost data service. Close Waze, disable GPS, have data service," complained a user on Reddit.

The issue disappointed many gamers actively playing Niantic Labs' latest location-based mobile game Pokémon GO, which needs GPS activated on a handset.

"Honestly, not being able to play PoGo [Pokémon GO] is what frustrates me the most," complained a Pokémon GO fan.

On Aug. 9, a Google employee called Orrin wrote in a forum that the issue was caused by GPS, which has now been fixed. Unfortunately, the Google employee did not reveal more details of the data outage problem.

"Thanks for all of the information you have provided. It has been extremely helpful while the team was investigating and working [toward] a fix," said Orrin. "We have made a few changes on our end, and the issue with GPS causing cellular connectivity to fail should now be resolved."

Users have also started reporting that the issue has been resolved and they are now able to activate GPS on their Nexus 6 without any problems.

"I'm a Tmo [T-Mobile] customer, and yesterday I got an update to Google Connectivity. It's worked fine since then. I hope everyone else gets this fixed for them 'cause it's super annoying," says a Nexus 6 owner.

Most of the Nexus 6 owners around the world should have the data connection issue fixed. Google recommends that customers still experiencing issues should restart their device.
