Apple has scheduled production for large iPads for December, but plans may be delayed because the company is not satisfied with the pace of production amid high demand for the iPhone 6 Plus, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

The mass production schedule for the company's suppliers is being pushed back due to difficulties hiring enough personnel to handle the massive order from Apple. According to the report, Foxconn, one of Apple's suppliers in China, is struggling to find enough workers for the iPhone 6 assembly process in its Zhengzhou factory.

"The top priority for the supply chain is to meet the overwhelming demand for the larger screen iPhones. The output of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus remains unsatisfactory. It would be challenging for display makers to split resources and spend a few months to ramp up production for a new larger screen iPad now," a source involved with one of Apple's suppliers told WSJ.

Reports of Apple's plans to create a super-sized iPad first surfaced in late August. A report from Bloomberg said the mass production for the tablet was scheduled for the first quarter of next year, which coincides with the new timetable for the device.

The new tablet, which is more than three inches larger than the biggest iPad in existence, is in line with Apple's new fascination with larger screen devices. In September, the company unveiled the iPhone 6, which had two variants that had bigger screens than their predecessor iPhone 5. The iPhone 6 came in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions, which exceeded the previous model's 4-inch display.

It is still not clear how long the production delay will last. However, some specifications have surfaced for the upcoming tablet. According to sources, the larger iPads, which insiders have dubbed the iPad Pro, will come with a 2048 x 1536 display similar to that of the iPad Air.
