Save the date, as Google is set to unveil at least one new smartphone on Oct. 4 at an event in San Francisco.

The talk in town is that the Mountain View company will finally take the wraps off the rumored Pixel and Pixel XL handsets, the next iteration of what was previously known as the Nexus lineup.

The Google-Branded Smartphones

This goes without saying, but without an official word from Google, nothing is set in stone just yet. However, the consensus is that the smartphones that are going to headline the show are the abovementioned Pixel and Pixel XL.

For a little refresher of the two, HTC is reportedly going to build them, but this piece of information isn't exactly news, as it has been making rounds online since January.

Needless to say, details surrounding the devices in question have been cropping up generously, and according to the rumors, the Pixel will measure at 5 inches and the Pixel XL at 5.5 inches with narrow bezels.

What's more, a recent leak reveals that the two will be available in either black or white, but the juicier takeaway is the new Geekbench test that shows that they'll both be housing a second revision of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 and 4 GB of RAM and running on a special version of Android 7.1 Nougat.

Of course, until Google reveals the smartphones and their official specs, no one can really be sure of what's in store, so take these details with the proverbial grain of salt.

The Teaser Video

Google uploaded a 30-second teaser video of the event. It starts out with a search field that gradually turns into the shape of a smartphone, with the iconic G logo popping up on the right and the Oct. 4 date on the left.

It's also worth pointing out that the company started a new "made by Google" website to make the announcement too, and it basically shows the same things that the clip does, except that visitors can put in their emails there to get notified about any updates.

Google Home Update

First unveiled at the I/O conference in May, Google Home could make an appearance, and everyone finally might get more info about the voice-activated smart speakers, particularly the price and release date.

To boil things down, Oct. 4 is a big day for Google and fans everywhere, and those waiting for a smartphone from the company may not have to wait that long anymore — be it the Pixel and Pixel XL or something else entirely.
