Sony took the wraps off the flagship Xperia XZ and the premium Xperia X Compact during the IFA event in Berlin earlier in September. The Xperia X Compact was already up for preorder on Amazon and now customers can also preorder the Xperia XZ from the online retailer.

Being a flagship phone, the Xperia XZ has impressive features that can surely attract smartphone enthusiasts.

"Xperia XZ perfects the fundamentals of a great smartphone. Packed with innovations in technology, it boasts a photo-pro's camera, an intelligent battery and smart features that adapt to you. And it's all delivered in a stunning, evolved design," says Sony.

The Xperia XZ sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a display resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz and 3 GB of RAM powers the Xperia XZ. It is worth noting that majority of the flagships launched in 2016 have 4 GB of RAM or above, which may make customers think twice about the smartphone's performance before purchasing it.

Sony phones are known for their top-notch cameras. The Xperia XZ boasts a 23-megapixel (F/2.0 lens) primary camera and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.

"With Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact you can capture every moment as you see it, with blur-free images day or night, and with true to life colours thanks to our new triple image sensing technology," said Hideyuki Furumi, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, Sony Mobile Communications.

With the latest Xperia XZ, users can capture high-resolution 4K videos as well.

The Xperia XZ has 32 GB of internal storage and with a microSD card slot users can expand the storage capacity to up to 256 GB.

The latest Sony offering will come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box. It is likely that the Xperia XZ will be one of the first Sony devices to get Android 7.0 Nougat software update.

The Sony device is IP68 certified, which makes it fully dust-resistant and waterproof for 30 minutes under 1.5 meters of water.

The Xperia XZ is available in three color options: black, blue and silver. Amazon has started taking preorders for the Xperia XZ. The unlocked blue and silver variants of the phone have a price tag of $699.99, while the black model is priced at $717.59. Amazon notes that the new Sony smartphone will start shipping from Oct. 2 onwards.

The smartphone market is full of mobile phones, so the Xperia XZ will have to face stiff competition when it hits the shelves. It remains to be seen if the phone will be able to attract customers in the presence of rivals such as the iPhone 7, Galaxy S7 and more.
