Samsung's recent struggles with its Galaxy Note 7 may just give other phonemakers the opening they need to carve a larger slice of the global smartphone market. One company that stands to gain much from the South Korean tech company's woes is Xiaomi, which just unveiled its latest offering the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

Here is a quick rundown of the Mi Note 2's specs to help you decide whether it's a fitting alternative to the once-popular Galaxy Note 7.

Design

Much like Samsung's Note 7, Xiaomi's Mi Note 2 features a sleek dual-curved design on its front and back ends, as well as a 5.7-inch OLED display with curved sides. However, while Samsung boasts a QHD resolution for its smartphone's OLED panel, Xiaomi went on a different route and fitted its new handset with a FullHD one.

Renders for the Mi Note 2 also hint at a potentially large display screen, which will occupy as much as 77 percent of the smartphone's body. By comparison, Apple's latest flagship phone, the iPhone 7 Plus, has a screen that takes close to 68 percent of its total frame. Handsets with larger screens are always a treat, especially for people who use their mobile devices for watching online.

Customers also have the option to buy a Mi Note 2 in Piano Black or Glacier Sliver variants.

Camera

For avid smartphone photographers out there, Xiaomi's newest offering comes equipped with a 22.56-megapixel rear camera featuring an IMX318 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. This is the same camera sensor used for Sony's Xperia X and Xperia XZ phones. It also has dual-tone LED Flash and Contrast Detection and Phase Detection systems to help you take clear images.

The Mi Note 2 also has Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) support and is capable of taking 4K quality videos.

The front camera, on the other hand, is an 8-megapixel IMX268 module with an f/2.0 aperture. This side of the smartphone is capable of auto focus and has a Beautify 3.0 feature for better selfie shots.

Mi Note 2 Specs

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 features the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 821 SoC. This chip is known to clock in at processing speeds of up to 2.35 GHz.

The Snapdragon 821 SoC is supported by either a 4 GB or 6 GB LPDDR4 RAM, as well as 64 GB to 128 GB worth of universal flash storage (UFS) 2.0 storage.

Connectivity

Connectivity for the new Mi Note 2 is handled by a global LTE system that can reach up to six different network types and 37 bands. It also has a P2P-capable NFC module and a highly accurate GPS module.
