Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy S8 in 5.7- and 6.2-inch variants, in what seems to be an effort to win back former Galaxy Note 7 customers who loved the big-screened and now-discontinued smartphone — if the rumors are anything to go by, that is.

Bigger Screen, Practically The Same Phone Size

Previous reports indicate that the Galaxy S8 is going to have a screen that occupies 90 percent of the space and that the two models — code-named Dream and Dream 2 — will don curved displays, not to mention that the home button is said to be given the old heave-ho and that the fingerprint scanner will be optical and embedded under the display.

That means Samsung may simply cut down on the bezels at the top and bottom of the handset to increase the screen size without going overboard with the measurements of the phone itself.

However, a 6.2-inch display could be a bit cumbersome, even if the South Korean brand does away with the bezels for more room.

Samsung Believes That People Want A Large Screen

The news comes from The Investor, and according to it, Samsung is making this move to bring a large-screened smartphone to the table in a bid to appeal to fans of the Galaxy Note series.

"In order to attract potential Note consumers who prefer a large screen, Samsung has decided to adopt bigger screens for both new models of the S8," the news outlets report as an unnamed analyst's statement.

It also mentions that the upcoming 6.2-inch flagship could be called the Galaxy S8 Plus.

In Comparison: The Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 Edge

Both of Samsung's current powerhouses the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge don't exactly sport huge displays, measuring at 5.1 inches and 5.5 inches respectively.

Going by the aforementioned guess that the smartphone maker is going to remove the bezels to fit the larger screens, the Galaxy S8 may turn out to be more or less the same size as the Galaxy S7 edge, curved ends and all.

Just to be clear on that, this is all mere speculation at this point.

It should also be pointed out that Samsung is launching an upgrade program (translated) to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 for Galaxy Note 7 owners in South Korea, essentially confirming that the Note series is far from being scrapped.

With all said and done, what do you think of a 5.7- or 6.2-inch Galaxy S8, and do you think that Samsung is right that the customers want to see a large screen on the upcoming smartphones? Feel free to hit us up in the comments section below and let us know.
