Product renders of Huawei's alleged next flagship, the P10, has surfaced online, first appearing in Chinese microblogging site Weibo, just several days after the smartphone visited GFXBench. These new renders follow the recent prototype leaks also lifted from Weibo, which did not feature curved displays as seen on these new renders.

Huawei P10 Curved Display Variant

It's possible that Huawei is miming Samsung's game by releasing a non-curved and curved display variant of its next flagship, which is also similar to its dual release strategy with the Mate 9.

If the renders hold any authenticity, we might also see a physical home button on the P10 just below the display, unlike the P9, which didn't have a physical home button altogether. It's also interesting to note that a fingerprint sensor can be spotted on the back panel of these new renders, which contradicts earlier prototype images of a non-curved display P10, which allegedly houses an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner just beneath the display.

Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner

From the leaked images and renders we have collected so far, it can be inferred that the non-curved display P10 variant will employ the front-facing ultrasonic fingerprint scanning method as opposed to the curved display P10 variant's traditional fingerprint scanner.

An ultrasonic fingerprint scanner works by deploying ultrasonic waves to recognize a person's fingerprint, irrespective of whether the finger is wet, sweaty or covered in filth and grime. It works across different materials, so phone makers don't have to worry about compatibility issues. The technology also allows the scanner to be embedded virtually on any part of the device, like say, the screen or the back panel.

Huawei P10 Alleged Specs

We're relying on the GFXBench spotting for the Huawei P10's specs, so take all this with a grain of salt, as with most tidbits spewed out by the rumor mill.

The P10 will allegedly rock a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and will be powered by the Huawei Kirin 960 system-on-a-chip. It will also have 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, which is presumed to be expandable via microSD.

Huawei's still in cahoots with Leica for the P10, it seems, since the smartphone will rock dual Leica cameras at the back, reportedly upped to 16 megapixels this time. It joins the P9, P9 Plus and the Mate 9, Huawei's smartphone lineup co-engineered with the camera manufacturer.

Beyond that, no tipster has ushered specific details about its pricing and availability into the radar, though the smartphone is expected to have a Q2 2017 unveiling. It's also possible that cheaper variants sporting less RAM and internal storage will be available.
