Some Google Pixel and iPhone users are encountering a strange issue recently involving screenshots. Based on their accounts, which have been posted in Google's official forum, screenshots sent from an iPhone appear to be distorted when sent to Pixel devices.

Screenshot Bug

According to initial claims, the problem seems to manifest when using the iPhone 7 Plus. Once a screenshot is taken then sent to either Google Pixel or Pixel XL through an SMS app or Google Hangout, the image will have dimensional and color distortions.

Some users are now claiming that the problem also surfaces in the iPhone 7. Interestingly, it is confined to screenshots taken using iPhone apps. According to Android Police this appears to be the case for all first-party and third-party applications. Any image captured from the iPhone's screen works just fine.

So far, the problem has been one way. Screenshots taken from a Pixel app or its home screen all appear in their exact forms when sent to iPhones. It is also inconsistent since the problem does not occur too often.

Finding The Cause: Apple or Pixel's Problem?

Observers are increasingly turning to the Android system as the culprit, particularly Android 7.1 Nougat. These note that the screenshot bug does not affect devices running Android 7.0 Nougat. Older devices both on the Android and iOS platforms are also not affected except a Nexus 6 handset, which seems to have been flashed by a custom ROM based on Android 7.1.

There is also the possibility that the problem may be originating on the software side of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. It might even be safe to say that there is a software incompatibility between the firmwares installed in the Google Pixel and iPhone 7 devices.

Google and Apple have not released any statement yet about the screenshot issue. However, the folks at Google already know about it since it is currently a hot topic in the company's online forum. A fix, therefore, should already be in the pipeline as we speak.

The screenshot bug is not the first time Pixel and iPhone 7 owners encountered issues with their devices. Pixel handsets that were initially upgraded to Android 7.1 began experiencing Bluetooth pairing problems, particularly when connecting to cars. Some iPhone 7 owners also found their devices freezing and crashing after viewing a viral video prank. The problem required a hard reset in order to get their devices back to normal.
