Sprint has announced that it has added the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Sport to its "Sprint Lease" program. New and existing customers can lease the smartphones for $20 per month.

When it comes to acquiring new customers or retaining existing ones, wireless carriers are coming up with clever ways to entice consumers with the latest and greatest smartphones. Sprint recently announced that it had its most successful iPhone launch in the carrier's history and a key piece of that success can be attributed to its new leasing program.

Approved customers can rent a 16 GB iPhone 6 for $30 per month, 64 GB for $35 per month, 128 GB for $40 per month, while the 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus costs $35 per month, 64 GB for $40 per month, and 128 GB for $45 per month over 12 months.

If you're more of an Android smartphone fan, Sprint has just announced that it has extended its lease program to include the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Sport.

The new Sprint Lease allows customers to lease a 16 GB Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S5 Sport for $20 a month for 24 months. Qualified customers pay zero out of pocket at lease signing for the phone. At the end of 24 months, customers in good standing currently have the following options to continue service:

  • Turn in the current leased Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S5 Sport and lease another phone with zero down at signing
  • Purchase the leased Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S5 Sport
  • Continue leasing Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S5 Sport on a month-to-month basis
  • Or, when the lease ends, the customer has the option to return the device in good working condition and terminate service

The Galaxy S5 is Samsung's current flagship smartphone and it boasts a 5.1-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display, and 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. Samsung has included 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to a 128-GB microSD card. It has a high-end 16-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, built-in heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner. The smartphone ships with a large 2,800 mAh removable battery.

The Galaxy S5 Sport is, as its name implies, a more rugged version of the Galaxy S5. It features a 5.1-inch 1080p Full HD display surrounded by an IP67 dustproof and water-resistant case. The handset has 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot. Its camera capabilities include a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has the same heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner built-in and a 2,800 mAh removable battery.
