Samsung just released its flagship 5.7-inch Quad HD Galaxy Note 4, and it is already planning to unleash its curved display Galaxy Note Edge in the U.S. The "limited edition" phablet just passed through the FCC for Sprint.

It's no secret that Samsung is feeling increased competition in the phablet category that it put on the map when it introduced the original Galaxy Note in 2011. Fast forward to 2014 and the company is no longer the only player in the category for oversized smartphones. Two of the company's largest rivals in the smartphone game have just entered the category with impressive phablets that are sure to give Samsung a run for its money.

Apple released its first phablet, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, in September and the smartphone is still virtually impossible to track down. Samsung has also found Android maker Google make its phablet ambitions clear with its just announced 5.9-inch Nexus 6.

In an effort to maintain its phablet dominance, Samsung is preparing to release what was said to be a "limited edition" concept device, the curved display Galaxy Note Edge. The phablet features a unique curved Quad HD display that functions as a separate screen that can be used for notifications, music controls, and more without interfering with the main display.

We recently reported that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge passed through the FCC with support to run on AT&T and T-Mobile's 4G LTE networks. Now, it is on its way to Sprint, as it also just received FCC certification to run on Sprint's network. The Sprint Galaxy Note Edge variant is listed by its model number of SM-N915P in the FCC documents.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge features a 5.6-inch curved Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a pixel density of 524 pixels per inch (ppi). It's running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, is powered by a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, Adreno 420 Graphics Processing Unit, and 3 GB of RAM. The phablet includes 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that supports up to 128 GB microSD cards.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is packing a high-end 16-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, autofocus, LED flash, and 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies. Samsung includes a large 3,000 mAh battery with Fast Charging support built in.

There's no word on an exact release date for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, but you can be sure we'll be following this and report back to you once we hear any news.
