Microsoft Surface Pro 4 fans in the United States are in for some good news, as the company offers a $100 discount on the tablet.

The discount is good only for a limited time and only for one model of the tablet, and it doesn't seem to apply in other markets outside of the United States.

The discounted model is the Surface Pro 4 with an Intel Core i5 processor and 128 GB of native storage space on board, which normally costs $999 but is now available for $899 until Jan. 28. The price cut puts the Core i5 model at the same price point as the Core m3 model with the same storage capacity.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4

For those unfamiliar with the device, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is a powerful machine that aims to replace your laptop, or at least that's how it's marketed. Microsoft touts that its Surface Pro 4 is fast, impressively thin and versatile, perfectly combining power and portability to offer the best of both worlds.

The device packs sixth-generation Intel Core processors and it's designed to handle professional-grade software, ready to tackle virtually any task you throw at it. The 12.3-inch PixelSense display, meanwhile, promises to deliver amazing color and contrast, as well as extra convenience with its support for touch and the Surface Pen stylus.

Laptop Replacement

"Surface Pro 4 is meticulously crafted to be a powerful, ultrathin laptop - or a beautiful tablet that can stand on its own," says Microsoft. "It's great for business travel or a life that keeps you moving."

The Type Cover comes with backlit keys, as well as a large trackpad with multi-touch and gesture support.

To start using the Surface Pro 4 tablet as a powerful laptop, all users have to do is connect it to the Surface Dock and they can use a full keyboard, a mouse, up to two high-resolution monitors, and other peripherals.

The Surface Pro 4 also features a built-in kickstand that allows users to position the device's screen at any angle, even when it's docked. Being a Microsoft device, the Surface Pro 4 also comes with the latest Microsoft Office Suite baked in, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and more.

For extra security, users can log in to their Surface Pro 4 by taking advantage of the machine's enterprise-grade facial recognition technology. Each family member can get their own secure profile so that safety is not compromised even if more people use the same device.

The Surface Pro 4 model on sale at $100 off now is not the top-end model, but its i5 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM and other high-end specs make it a powerful device nonetheless. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, full-size USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort, microSD card reader, cover port, Surface Connect, and a headphone jack.

The device has a sleek magnesium build in a silver color option, and other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter with Windows Hello face authentication, stereo microphones, and stereo speakers with Dolby Audio Premium.

The next-generation Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to be even more impressive with a 4K display, 3D support and more, but until it's official the Surface Pro 4 is the current flagship and it still packs a punch.

As previously mentioned, Microsoft's $100 discount for the Surface Pro 4 with a Core i5 processor and 128 GB of storage is available only until Jan. 28, so interested customers might want to take advantage of it while it lasts. The same model is also available on Amazon with the same $100 price cut.
