After a successful stint with the ZenFone 3 lineup in 2016, Asus is likely to introduce its ZenFone 4 smartphone series in the coming months.

After launching a wide variety of spin-off devices, including the ZenFone 3 Deluxe, ZenFone 3 Laser, and the ZenFone 3 Zoom, the Taiwan-based company is reportedly planning to unveil the ZenFone 4 range in a few months from now.

This news comes courtesy publication DigiTimes, which cites sources in Asus' supply chain. The sources have claimed that the company would be unveiling the ZenFone 4 lineup in May.

"Asustek Computer plans to launch its next-generation ZenFone 4-series smartphones in May and aims to ship over 20 million smartphones in 2017, according to sources from Taiwan's handset supply chain," notes the publication.

The sources have also divulged that the ZenFone 4 series will pack in several improvements when compared to the ZenFone 3 lineup.

Earlier in January, Tech Times reported that Asus is targeting a shipment of 35 million to 45 million smartphones per year. The launch of the ZenFone 4 series smartphones could very well be a step in achieving this goal.

ZenFone 4 Range Of Devices

If Asus follows the trend of its ZenFone 3 lineup, then it is possible that the company could introduce a standard ZenFone 4, a ZenFone 4 Max, and a ZenFone 4 Deluxe.

Reports suggest that the ZenFone 4 range of devices is likely to feature better hardware specifications and, therefore, a higher average selling price in comparison to the prevailing ZenFone 3 smartphones.

ZenFone 4 Rumored Specs

Information pertaining to the upcoming ZenFone 4 is pretty slim, but the newly launched ZenFone AR may give some hints about the impending ZenFone 4 series.

The ZenFone AR is the high-end version of the ZenFone 3 line and houses a Snapdragon 821 processor as well as 8 GB of RAM.

The smartphone boasts a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Therefore, if any device in the upcoming ZenFone 4 lineup has better specs than these, then fans of the series have plenty to look forward to.

Reportedly, an Asus device bearing the model number X00GD was spotted on a TENAA, the Chinese regulatory body in January. The device could possibly be a mid-range member of the ZenFone 4 lineup as it was powered by a 4,850 mAh battery.

This Asus smartphone also has a 5.2-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels based on the listing. The alleged ZenFone 4 smartphone may also be equipped with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, and house either 2 GB of RAM or 4 GB of RAM. The device is also said to sport a 13-megapixel primary camera.

ZenFone 4 Series Release

Asus' supposed decision to out the ZenFone 4 series in May seems a bit baffling as the company just debuted its ZenFone 3 Zoom at CES 2017. The smartphone is expected to hit the shelves in February. With the next-gen ZenFone 4 smartphones anticipated to debut in May, the company would likely be eating into the sales of the ZenFone 3 Zoom.

Whether Asus will officially confirm the ZenFone 4 series' launch in the coming days remains to be seen.
