The Moto Z Play is apparently getting a software treat in Europe, as the Android 7.0 Nougat update has started rolling out.

Previous rumors indicated as much, with reports from earlier this month claiming that the Moto Z Play would get a taste of Nougat in late January. It now looks like those reports were spot on and as we're approaching the end of the month, the update has been spotted in Spain and Portugal.

Other countries in Europe are expected to get the treat soon as well, with Moto Germany said to release Android 7.0 Nougat within the next few days. At this rate, a global release may not be too far off.

Moto Z Play Android 7.0 Nougat Update

The Android 7.0 Nougat update now hitting Moto Z Play units in Europe carries build number NPN25.137-15-2 and is rolling out over the air. It remains unclear for now whether it's a stable release of Android Nougat or it's the previously reported soak test that precedes an official release.

There's a good chance that this is the stable build and not just a soak test since it seems that many users in Europe received the treat, but it remains unconfirmed until Motorola makes an official announcement or offers a statement on the matter.

If this is indeed the stable build of Android 7.0 Nougat, the rollout is bound to be a big one and more Moto Z Play devices should get it soon enough. With Spain and Portugal already on board, the update is bound to be Europe-wide.

There's still no news on a Nougat release for the Moto Z Play in the United States or other markets outside of Europe at his point.

Moto Z Play owners in Europe, meanwhile, will automatically receive a notification alerting them of the update as soon as Android 7.0 Nougat is available for their device. Alternately, users can manually check for the update's availability by accessing their phone's Settings > About Phone > System Update. If the update is available, users will be able to download and install it.

Moto Z Play Specs

As a reminder, the Moto Z Play is a midrange smartphone launched in 2016 and it plays nice with all of the Moto Mods for the Moto Z line. In terms of specifications, the Moto Z Play sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2 GHz, Adreno 506 graphics and 3 GB of RAM to ensure a smooth performance.

Other specs include 32 GB of native storage space, expandable up to 2 TB via microSD, a 16-megapixel main camera with dual LED flash, laser autofocus and phase detection autofocus, and a 5-megapixel front shooter with its own flash. The smartphone further boasts a large 3,510 mAh battery with TurboCharging technology, promising to offer up to 50 hours of battery life on a single charge.

All in all, the Moto Z Play is not a top-notch flagship but it does pack a punch, and Android 7.0 Nougat should significantly boost its appeal.
