If you love the babbling trio of Stuart, Bob and Kevin and haven't had your fill of Minionese, the language used by Minions, then you'll be thrilled to know that Minions 2 the movie is set to arrive three years from now.

That's right, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have confirmed that they are working on the sequel of Minions, which will be released in 2020.

Come 2020, Minions 2 will usher in the Independence Day as it is set to release on July 3. The sequel to the runaway hit Minions was initially slated for a July 10, 2020 release but Universal has shifted its release to a week earlier, possibly eyeing the holiday weekend sales.

Minions Will Make You Go 'Bananas'

As any Minion-loving buff would know, the yellow gibberish-talking helpers are the army of workers who assisted Gru in Despicable Me. Since their introduction to the world in 2010, the trio of Bob, Stuart, and Kevin have been featured in their very own movie — Minions — which released in 2015, following the 2013 release of Despicable Me 2.

In July 2015, Minions opened to an overwhelming response as it conquered box office sales, raking in a whopping $115.2 million in the first weekend in North America alone. The opening box office sales for the flick made it the second highest grosser for an animated film in movie history.

The success of the movie was attributed to the marketing efforts by Universal, which constantly reminded people why the gibberish-talking, banana-loving blokes were so lovable. Universal even partnered with Snapchat, Amazon, and McDonald's for the movie's publicity and promotions, spending nearly $600 million in this effort.

Minions raked in a colossal $1.1 billion worldwide in 2015 and remains no. 11 on the global all-time blockbuster list.

Minions 2: What's The Story?

While the original movie saw the trio embark on a mission to find a new boss and battle the villainous Scarlet Overkill to save Minionkind from obliteration, the adventures planned for Bob, Stuart, and Kevin in Minions 2 are not known. That said, the three heroes will surely enthrall audiences with their antics while attempting to annihilate any villains.

For those who cannot wait for Minions 2, Universal is poised to release the next installment in its Despicable Me franchise. That's right, Despicable Me 3 will be released on June 30 this year. The first trailer for Despicable Me 3 is out, although it does not show the Minions in action — barring the closing scene.
