The news that Huawei Honor 8 will be getting the much awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update in early February has been in the air for quite a while.

The 5.2-inch phablet which garnered an overwhelming response on its launch and did a mind blowing business of 1.5 million units all over the world will be the first Honor phone to bump up from Android Marshmallow to the latest operating system from Google.

The Huawei Honor 8 started receiving the Nougat update in Japan on Jan. 16, but users in other parts of the world were still waiting with bated breath for the update to make its way to their handset.

It now seems that the users won't have to wait anymore given that the company has announced that it will start rolling out the Android Nougat update for the Honor 8 from Feb. 10.

The Android 7.0 update is an OTA one and will be pushed out in phases and is expected to reach all Honor 8 users by the end of February. Along with many features the update would also bring EMUI 5.0.

For the unfamiliar, EMUI 5.0 is the customized Honor Android skin specially made for the brand's smartphones.

The update will be a global roll out and will be received by all Honor 8 devices. It is likely that some countries like UK may receive the update first given that the beta version was already rolled out for the users.

The U.S. is also said to be in line with the UK and may receive the update before other countries.  

Android Nougat Features For Honor 8

Huawei Honor 8 was launched with EMUI 4.1 and Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The Android Nougat update brings in key enhancements and improved features for the smartphone. The update will include support for multiple local languages and 1500 emojis, including some 72 new emojis promoting gender equality.

It will also bring the multi-window view which will enable users to switch between multiple apps and also run two apps side by side on the same screen. The Doze mode will help the device save battery when the handset is not in use.

Notification direct reply will let the user respond to messages from the notification bar itself without the having to open the particular app.

Customized quick settings will make it possible for the user to rearrange the quick setting option according to his or her choice of the most commonly used settings.

If you do not receive and alert for the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Honor 8 post Feb. 10, you can manually check your handset as well. To check for the update manually, navigate to Settings > About Device > Updates > Check for Updates.
