Google Sheets, the online spreadsheet app from the search engine giant, has received an update that brings several new features users' way, including offline support.

Google announced the update on Wednesday, December 11, saying Google Sheets will be faster post the update and also able to handle a lot more cells and formulas.

"Whether you're crunching big data or tracking your family budget, you don't want to waste time waiting for files to load or re-doing edits that were lost because your Internet connection dropped. You can now get more done by switching to the new version of Google Sheets. It's faster, supports larger spreadsheets, has a number of new features, and works offline," per Google.

Moreover, users can put private data into a shared spreadsheet. The new Google Sheets also support far more cells and gets rid of the previous size and complexity limits. Loading data, scrolling and calculating are all faster now thanks to the update even in the complex spreadsheets.

The update also brings the filter views feature to the Google Sheets, which lets users "name, save and share different views" of their data. This feature comes in handy when one is collaborating and can sort a spreadsheet without affecting other people's view of it.

Performing and setting up calculations is also easier now and the new function help will guide a user as they type, as well as highlight errors.

Another time saving feature is that the text need not be merged manually and it flows automatically into empty adjacent cells.

Additionally, Google Sheets app is now finally at par with its rivals as it now works offline.

"You shouldn't have to think about whether you have a WiFi connection when you want to work. So just like Google Docs and Slides, you can now make edits to Sheets offline. When you reconnect to the Internet, your edits will automatically sync. If you've edited Docs or Slides offline in the past, then you're already set up to edit Sheets offline. If not, follow these one-time instructions for setting up offline in Chrome," notes Google.

Check out the new features and "Try the new Google Sheets" box in Google Drive settings. All the spreadsheets created by you will work offline.
