Apple recently announced that a major overhaul will come in the future for its flagship desktop Mac model, the Mac Pro. For now, the company has upgraded the specs of the current model with more powerful Intel Xeon chips and updated GPUs.

Apple's announcement that it is "completely rethinking" what the Mac Pro is, means a lot to loyal users, as it shows that the company has not yet abandoned the product line.

Apple Promises New Design For The Mac Pro

Apple promised that a new design is coming for the Mac Pro, but the refreshed desktop model will not be sold this year. The first major overhaul to the line in three years will instead be released next year.

The Mac Pro is a powerful desktop model that has a loyal user base, composed mostly of professionals in need of massive amounts of computing power in their fields of work. Included in this group of Mac Pro users are video editors, graphic designers, and animators, among others.

The upgraded Mac Pro will be sold for $2,999 with a six-core Intel Xeon processor, 16 GB of RAM, and dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs. For $3,999, the specifications will be bumped up to an eight-core processor with dual D700 GPUs.

The powered up Mac Pro, along with the promised redesign of the desktop model, comes as good news for the computer's loyal users, as Apple has mostly focused on developments for mobile devices such as its iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Apple's Mac Pro Announcement Is Good News For Loyal Users

While Mac computers started Apple's journey to become one of the world's most valuable brands, they have largely taken a backseat to the iPhone since the mobile device was launched 10 years ago. Product refreshes for Mac computers, including the Mac Pro, have been few and far between compared to the annual developments for the iPhone.

The Mac Pro, which was released in 2013, was a powerful computer that came with a weird shape and an eye-popping price tag. However, it was embraced by professionals who need massive amounts of computing power, and the Mac Pro was able to get the job done.

More than three years has since passed from the launch of the Mac Pro without any considerable upgrades for the desktop model. In the meantime, desktop PCs have become very attractive options for even the most loyal Mac Pro users.

As such, Apple's promise to release a redesigned Mac Pro represents a commitment that it has previously not shown to the desktop computer and the entire Mac line. The iPhone will still likely be the focus of Apple, but at the very least, loyal users now know that the company at least still remembers the Mac Pro.

Apple's announcement, however, does not mean that it will be releasing annual updates to the Mac Pro and Mac computers similar to what it does for the iPhone. Once the redesigned Mac Pro launches in 2018, users will likely ask if the next update would take more than three years again.
