Galaxy Note fans may still be hoping that Samsung was able to embed the Galaxy Note 8 fingerprint scanner under the upcoming smartphone's display, but the barrage of leaks and rumors have all but confirmed that the worst feature of the Galaxy S8 will indeed return.

Fortunately, Samsung may have made a small change to the fingerprint scanner to make it better. Will it be enough to satisfy customers?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Fingerprint Scanner At The Back

Samsung initially planned to embed the Galaxy Note 8 fingerprint scanner into its screen. However, Samsung apparently encountered technical issues and ran out of time, forcing the company to place the feature at the back of the smartphone, similar to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

The location of the Galaxy Note 8 fingerprint scanner has since been confirmed in multiple reports, as cases created for the smartphone appearing online showed that the feature will indeed be at the back of the device.

New images from a trusted source, Vietnamese designer Tùng Hà, further dashes hopes that Samsung may have pulled off a last-minute salvo to move the fingerprint scanner under the Galaxy Note 8 display. One of the images, a close-up on the Galaxy Note 8's camera module, focused on the smartphone's dual-lens system alongside its LED flash and fingerprint scanner.

Small Change To Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Fingerprint Scanner

While Samsung is repeating the oft-maligned decision of placing the fingerprint scanner at the back, the company made a small change to the feature to try to make it better for users.

In the Galaxy S8, the fingerprint scanner was placed right next to the camera lens, which made it awkward to reach while also heavily increasing the chance that the camera lens will be smudged by the user's finger.

The image uploaded by Tùng Hà, however, shows that the LED flash was placed in between the camera lens and the fingerprint scanner, adding a bit of distance between the two components.

The arrangement of the components, in addition to the wider space between the camera lens and fingerprint scanner, was also featured in a CAD render created by Slickwraps CEO Jonathan Endicott.

It appears that Samsung listened to customer complaints about the risk of smudging the Galaxy S8 camera lens with their fingers, pushing it to make changes to the arrangement of the Galaxy Note 8's rear components after the decision was made to place the fingerprint scanner at the back.

It remains to be seen whether the additional distance between the camera lens and fingerprint scanner will change the minds of customers on how bad it is to have the security feature at the back of the Galaxy Note 8.
