Just a mere several months after the Galaxy S8 launched and now rumors about the sequel start surfacing. Information from "unnamed industry sources" claim that the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus won't feature displays larger than their direct predecessors.

Rumor: Galaxy S9 To Sport The Same Screen As The Galaxy S8

That essentially means customers will be treated to the same Infinity Display found on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus once both S9 variants are released. If true, the notion of featuring the same screen sounds as if Samsung wants to avert innovation because usually, smartphones gain larger screens every iteration.

Then again, Samsung's Infinity Display seems arguably the most gorgeous screen ever seen on a smartphone so far, so the company might simply be milking an innovation it has already introduced. Reports claim that Samsung Electronics has given Samsung Display the official screen measurements — 5.77 inches for the base Galaxy S9, 6.22 inches for the Galaxy S9.

With all those in mind, there's still a possibility that Samsung could update the display but not in terms of making it larger, of course. As The Bell reports, Samsung will finally develop a fingerprint reader underneath the display, which it failed to do in time for the Galaxy S8. Both Qualcomm and Vivo already gave a brief look at a working prototype, so maybe the technology will be ready around the time the S9 launches.

Galaxy S9 And S9 Plus: What We Know So Far

It's a tad bit early to speculate on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, although seeing as how they — allegedly — will feature the same screens, the form factor could not change by much. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are already both gorgeous smartphones as it stands, leaving very little room for innovation, especially in such a short cycle.

On the specs side, though, we're going to bet it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, more than 4 GB of RAM, dual cameras, and perhaps a thinner profile. They'll most definitely ship with a stable version of Android O.

But before focusing on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, there's still the Galaxy Note 8 to cover, which grows more evident by the day. Samsung will officially unveil the direct Note 7 successor this August and launch the following month. Rumors are slim, though there have been occasional teases and "leaks."
