The year 2013 is about to end and Google has released its year-end zeitgeist revealing what people Googled most.

According to Google, "Nelson Mandela" was the top trending search term on Google's global list. Mandela, a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist who also served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, died on December 5, at 95 years. Google search for Mandela was high even before he died but his death propelled the search regarding his life and death.

American actor "Paul Walker" was the second most searched term in 2013. Walker died in a car crash on November 30 this year. The actor became popular after performing in the first film of "The Fast and the Furious" franchisee.

The third most trending search on Google was "iPhone 5s," which was launched and released by Apple in September this year. The smartphone is amongst one of the most-popular smartphones in the handset space. The smartphone's predecessor, iPhone 5, was the fourth trending Google search in 2012.

The fourth most Google searched term of 2013 was "Cory Monteith" a Canadian actor who died of an accidental drug overdose on July 13 this year.

Searches for "Harlem Shake" was fifth, followed by "Boston Marathon" as the sixth most searched item on Google this year.

Search for the "Royal Baby" occupied the seventh position. Prince George of Cambridge, son of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the only grandchild of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, was born on July 22, 2013.

"Samsung Galaxy S4", the arch rival of iPhone 5s, was the eighth most trending search for 2013 followed by the recently launched Sony "PlayStation 4" (PS4) at the ninth position.

"North Korea" was the tenth most searched term on Google this year.

Google's global list of top searches was collected after surveying the results of 72 countries, the largest sample the website has ever taken.

Beyonce, Edward Snowden, new Pope, BlackBerry 10, Man of Steel, Grand Theft Auto V, iPad Air, and more, were amongst the top 100 trending Google searches for 2013.

In the U.S., the top 5 trending searches of 2013 were Paul Walker, Boston Marathon Bombing, Nelson Mandela, Cory Monteith and iPhone 5s.
