It's not Portal 3, but fans of Valve's Portal franchise should look forward to Bridge Constructor: Portal, a mash-up of two interestingly different games.

Valve has lent Portal licenses to free fan projects in the past few years, but this is the first time that a standalone game within the franchise will be released by another developer.

What We Know About 'Bridge Constructor: Portal'

Bridge Constructor: Portal is a puzzler that combines the physics-based gameplay of Bridge Constructor with the teleporting mechanics of Portal.

In the regular Bridge Constructor, players are given limited resources to create bridges that should be strong enough for vehicles to cross through. Meanwhile, in the Portal games, players solve puzzles by using the Portal gun, which opens up wormholes that connect two separate points in space.

If you are having trouble visualizing what Bridge Constructor: Portal will look like, an announcement trailer has fortunately been released for the game. In the video, an Aperture Laboratories truck is shown both flying through a portal to knock off hostile robots and then falling due to an improperly built bridge. GlaDOS, the villainous AI from Portal, is also making its return.

Headup Games and ClockStone Software, the publisher and developer of Bridge Constructor, are working directly with Valve for Bridge Constructor: Portal. The game will be released for the PC, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices on Dec. 20, and then on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch in early 2018.

Valve Doesn't Like The Number 3

Valve being involved in the development of any game is bound to be noticed, especially as the last full-fledged PC game that the company released was Dota 2 over four years ago.

Bridge Constructor: Portal is not Portal 3, and it appears that Valve does not want to have anything to do with anything with the number 3. Of course, this is referring to the long-awaited Half-Life 3.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that Valve employees have actually been trolling gamers by starting their own Half-Life 3 rumors, as the demand for the third installment in the franchise has still not died down.

At this year's The International, Valve told attendees that it will be announcing a new game, igniting hype that it might finally be time for Half-Life 3. Instead, Valve announced Artifact, a digital card game based on DOTA, much to the dismay of people around the world.

At the very least, Bridge Constructor: Portal is closer to Portal 3 than the Portal board game released in 2015.
