Apple iOS 8.1.2 has just been released to users of iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, and 6 Plus. It's also available to users of all iPads except the first-generation model and to users of the fifth-generation iPod Touch. The update brings with it minor fixes in the sense that it is designed to address solely the issue of disappearing ringtones in one's device.

Users who experience the issue of a missing ringtone can visit the "Restore Tones" page on their device in order to retrieve their ringtones. Other than the bug fix on ringtones, the latest iOS 8 version offers no other major patches which are worth taking note of.

While majority of Apple users are now on iOS 8, there are 40 percent among them who have chosen to remain loyal to iOS 7. The reasons for this are varied and may even be understandable on the part of the users.

One reason could be the fear factor: either the user feels scared of trying out a brand new OS or of the initial bugs that occur every time a major iOS update is released.

The thing to remember is understanding what one is getting himself into should one decides to go for an update. The latest iOS 8.1.2 is supposed to fix the issues that were brought by the iOS 8.1.1 update. If the user is still on iOS 7, it would mean that he's taking six big leaps once he decides to get the 8.1.2 version.

From the iOS 8 update, Apple has released succeeding versions which have been aptly labeled as iOS 8.0.1, iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1, iOS 8.1.1 and iOS 8.1.2 which is the latest.

Users who are still unfamiliar with the benefits brought by the new iOS 8 should hold off until they have taken the time to look at its features. They should feel happy with what the updates could bring to their iPhone devices.

However, there may be a few questions that the users need to answer truthfully in order to help them come up with a decision. Try to answer the following:

Are you prepared?

Getting an update can be the next best thing to do only if one is ready and prepared with everything else that comes with it.

Are you not traveling?

Updating a device can be troublesome for travelers who have failed to back up their data.

Can you deal with bugs?

So far, there are no bugs yet that have been discovered with the iOS 8.1.2 update.

Can your apps take some changes?

Some users rely on certain apps for school or work.

Is your device not jailbroken?

If one is using the iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak or a different iOS 8 jailbreak, there's a chance that iOS 8.1.2 will break it.

Can you accept the consequences on your iPhone or iPad even when you use these devices for work?

There are times when an iOS update would also cause the devices to have battery life issues. This can be a problem when one is using his device for work.

If the answer to all these questions is yes, then you are more than ready to go for an iOS 8 update.

How to Get iOS 8.1.2 Update

There are two ways to get the update. For those who are getting it over the air, they can open the Settings app on their device. Once opened, they can tap General, followed by the Software Update, and then finally Download.

The other option is getting it through iTunes which is a better option if one's device lacks the needed amount of free space in order to install the update.
