Following the official announcement of Super Smash Bros. for Switch, Nintendo now teases a tournament for the game at E3 2018 on June 11 to 12.

Invitation-Only 'Smash Bros.' Tournament

The Super Smash Bros. tournament is invitational, with select top players who will get to showcase the game for everyone.

"We want to have an event that showcases a really high level of play," said Bill Trinen, Nintendo's senior product marketing manager.

"We want it to be fun for the players, fun for the fans in attendance and for those streaming at home. We want to have matchups that people want to see."

Nintendo hasn't yet announced a hands-on experience for the press and the attendees of this year's E3. Fans are positive, nonetheless, that they will get the chance to try it as they did at E3 2017 with Splatoon 2.

First Look At The 'Super Smash Bros.'

As Nintendo often hosts a Nintendo Direct before E3 begins, fans might get their first look at Super Smash Bros. before the tournament. However, the competition will likely be an extensive showcase of the game on Nintendo Switch before its official release.

At E3, gamers are expecting to see more characters in addition to the ones teased earlier this March: Link, Mario, and the Inklings from Splatoon. They also anticipate seeing some new stages as the tournament progresses.

With some months to go before E3 commences, the industry is also on the lookout for more Super Smash Bros. announcements, such as new stages, characters, and even the release date.

Trinen also teased many more E3 announcements to come in the next couple of months. Currently, Nintendo has only announced two exciting tournaments for the gaming event.

Two Tournaments At E3 2018

The Smash Bros. tournament is not the only headliner at Nintendo's E3. Splatoon 2 is holding its first world championship also on June 11 to 12. Both competitions will be available for live streaming.

Before then, Battlefy is hosting the U.S./Canada qualifier. Those who would like to join the open qualifier, Turf War style, can still sign up online on April 21. The finals' Ranked Battle will then be held on April 28, which will be available via live stream.

The Splatoon 2 Inkling Open winner will join the other qualifying teams from Japan, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand at E3.

E3 2018 will be held on June 12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
