The classic Nintendo game Duck Hunt will be released to Wii U on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, through the Virtual Console.

The game uses the Wii remote in lieu of the NES Zapper, allowing users to shoot birds and clay pigeons right out of the sky.

"Grab your Wii Remote controller! It's duck season and your trusty hunting dog is ready to scour the open fields," said the company in a statement. "Test your sharp-shooting skills as your targets take flight in this legendary NES classic. Be quick to knock them out of the skies, or your canine companion won't hesitate to make you the laughing stock of hunters. Need a change in scenery? Best your score against clay pigeon targets instead. Duck Hunt will be available on Dec. 25."

The new game is a direct copy of the classic 1980s game, so while users shouldn't expect anything new, those feeling a little nostalgic will enjoy it. The game supports two-player gameplay, a number of levels that increase in difficulty and, of course, a laughing dog.

"With three fun modes to choose from, get your trigger finger ready for some fast-paced action! You only have three shots to hit your target before it zooms offscreen," continued the company. "Things might get a bit hairy when you advance to the next round, because those ducks and clay pigeons are going to fly faster and faster! Play solo, or challenge a friend as you test your dogged determination and feathered speed in this NESTM classic!"

The release of the classic game comes shortly after it was announced that Duck Hunt Dog would be included in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and the 3DS handheld system.

The price of the game has not yet been announced; however most do not expect it to cost more than $10. NES games through Virtual Console typically cost no more than $4.99, however. It is not currently known if the game will be released outside of North America.

Nintendo has had a busy year this year. It recently released the extremely popular Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Not only that, but the company also took home a number of awards at the first Game Awards this year, winning developer of the year, as well as Best Fighting Game for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The company also won Best Sports/Racing game for Mario Kart 8.

The company also announced the next game in the Legend of Zelda franchise, which is yet to be titled, but is said to boast stunning graphics and far-improved gameplay.
