The rumored 6.5-inch OLED iPhone, dubbed the iPhone X Plus and believed to be the third 2018 iPhone model, will be just as big as the iPhone 8 Plus.

The information, reported by Japanese blog Mac Otakara, was provided by a reliable supplier source. If the iPhone X Plus will have the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, what will be so special about it?

iPhone X Plus Will Be As Big As iPhone 8 Plus

According to Mac Otakara, the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone that will be released this year will feature similar dimensions as last year's iPhone 8 Plus.

The report claimed that the iPhone X Plus will be 7.7 millimeters thick, which is just 0.2 millimeters thicker compared to the iPhone 8 Plus. The slight difference is supposedly due to the design of the rear camera, which will include a vertical dual-lens camera.

Until the iPhone X, all of Apple's dual-camera setups were arranged horizontally. However, Apple had to adjust the rear camera with the iPhone X due to the addition of TrueDepth and Face ID systems. It appears that the setup will be carried over to the iPhone X Plus.

Meanwhile, the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will reportedly measure almost the same as the iPhone 8 Plus, which was 6.24 inches long and 3.07 inches wide. However, the iPhone 8 Plus had bezels at the top and bottom, while the iPhone X Plus will have an edge-to-edge display similar to last year's iPhone X. This will provide the user with significantly more screen real estate, even if the physical sizes of the two smartphones are similar.

Three 2018 iPhone Models

The 6.5-inch OLED iPhone is rumored to be joined by a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone and a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone as the three 2018 iPhone models. However, Mac Otakara believes that the latter might be a bit smaller and come in at 6 inches instead.

The 5.8-inch OLED iPhone is believed to be an upgraded version of last year's iPhone X. Meanwhile, the 6-inch LCD iPhone will be the less expensive version of the iPhone X that retains the edge-to-edge display and notch, while switching out the OLED for LCD.

Apple, however, may be forced to tweak its way of giving iPhone names because of the iPhone X. The 6.5-inch OLED iPhone is known as the iPhone X Plus, but will the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone be named the iPhone X-2? Meanwhile, if the 6-inch LCD iPhone will be named the iPhone 9, what will happen next year for its successor, considering that the "X" in iPhone X is pronounced as "ten"?
