The studio behind the Bayonetta series is hard at work on a new game that it claims will turn the action genre on its head.

Platinum Games made the announcement during a talk at an indie games festival called BitSummit on May 13, confirming that it's working on several titles, including "something that changes the concept of an action game."

Platinum Games Working On Top-Secret Project

The said game is a top-secret project, according to BAFTA-winning game developer Atsushi Inaba, though he did tease that it will feature a new and innovative concept. The project is kept under wraps to the point where even some employees at Platinum Games don't know about it.

It's hard to determine how far along this game is in terms of development, but it's highly likely that a reveal or announcement isn't due anytime soon. It's also unclear whether Platinum Games plans on releasing it as a Nintendo Switch exclusive or bring it to other platforms.

Inaba and Platinum Games colleague Hideki Kamiya also spoke about other things, the most notable among which was a potential port of Wii U's The Wonderful 101 to the Switch. Kamiya joked about the title's poor sales but did express interest in bringing the game to Nintendo's new system, which is increasingly becoming home to many Wii U ports. He also asked the audience if they'd like to see The Wonderful 101 on the Switch, and the response from the audience was very positive.

Inaba and Kamiya went on to talk about many other interesting topics, including the philosophy Platinum Games upholds when it creates games, their personal tastes when it comes to games, and the massive budgets of AAA titles made by Western studios. Check out the whole discussion on Twitch.

Bayonetta Series

Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 were recently re-released for the Switch, with a third game called Bayonetta 3 announced exclusively for the hybrid console. Platinum Games first teased the much-awaited entry during The Games Awards in December 2017, which surprised fans of the series.

Bayonetta was first released in 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It's an action-adventure hack-and-slash video game featuring a witch who is capable of shapeshifting and using various firearms. She also possesses magical attacks and is able to use her hair to summon demons to help her combat enemies.

How Bayonetta 3 differs from its two predecessors is hard to determine, but fans speculate that the game will delve into some sort of parallel reality or alternate timeline.
