"Gorgeous" isn't a common word to describe a smartphone, but the Silk White OnePlus 6 is one of the few that deserves to be called just that.
OnePlus 6's New Color
In contrast with the other color options available, it sports a white matte and pearly quality to it instead of the Mirror Black variant's glossy, all-glass design and the Midnight Black's, well, black matte finish. On top of that, it has light rose gold accents, from its metal frame and logo to its rear fingerprint reader.
Just to be clear, the bezels — regardless of how little there is left of it — are black, despite the white and rose gold theme it's got going on.
Beyond the aesthetics, everything is more or less the same as the others. Silk White or not, it still has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 under the hood, a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display with a 1,080 x 2,280 resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio, and a 3,300 mAh battery. It's available only in one configuration, and that's 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage.
It also has the same rear dual-camera combo that's composed of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors and a 16-megapixel front-facing snapper. Out of the box, it runs on the smartphone maker's proprietary Oxygen OS that's based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Best Smartphone Ever?
The OnePlus 6 is considered to be a notable contender in the heated smartphone competition, and it's all thanks to its relatively low price point and powerful specs. That's the consensus online, at the very least.
However, it does have some compromises. For starters, it's compatible with only two out of the four major carriers in the United States, which are AT&T and T-Mobile. For the record, it also works on U.S. Cellular.
More than that, it can't hold a candle to other flagships — like, say, the iPhone X — because it lacks wireless charging support and an IP rating (it's more splash resistant than water resistant, according to iFixit's teardown).
Obviously, it doesn't have Face ID, but it does have a face unlock feature. However, it can be fooled by a photo, which doesn't really come as much of a surprise.
Still, it's a speedy phone that can keep pace with the top dogs among the current crop when it comes to performance, and the new Silk White color option just made it all the more attractive to consumers.
Now the OnePlus 6 starts out at $529, which is for the Mirror Black version with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of built-in storage. However, as mentioned earlier, the Silk White comes in just one configuration, and it's priced at $579, which is still pretty affordable. It's expected to be available at 10 a.m. ET on June 5. It should be mentioned that it's a limited edition too, so it's safe to assume that supplies will run out quick, if the previous limited editions are anything to go by, that is.
