Kingdom Hearts fans will have to wait until next year to play the upcoming installment of Square Enix's crossover action role-playing franchise.

However, a few more months don't sound all that bad when fans have been waiting for more than a decade for the game's release.

'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Date Confirmed

During the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour, director Tetsuya Nomura announced that Kingdom Hearts 3 will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Jan. 29, 2019. This will mark the first time that the franchise arrives on Xbox consoles as the series has traditionally been playable only on Nintendo and PlayStation.

The upcoming title, which follows Sora, Donald, and Goofy's adventures through Disney-themed worlds, was originally scheduled for a 2018 release.

It has been 13 years since Kingdom Hearts 2 arrived on PlayStation 2 consoles. However, Square Enix has managed to keep the franchise alive by releasing prequels and remixes.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was first announced five years ago at the 2013 E3 Expo but fans got their first look at the game's combat last year and mini-games earlier this year, so it has been a long time coming.

Nomura Apologizes For Delayed Release

Nomura apologized to the fans for the delayed release date."I'm sorry that we're asking for a little more time than initially planned," he said in a statement via the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter handle. "Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you."

New Trailer Features Characters From 'Frozen,' 'Tangled'

A brand new trailer, which was unveiled during Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference, followed the announcement.

The new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer sees Sora and friends interacting with Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Sven, and Kristoff from Disney's Frozen. Rapunzel from Tangled also made an appearance, using her long locks to help Sora swing through a canyon in one scene.

Some of the Disney-themed worlds that have been confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 3 include Wreck-It-Ralph, Tangled, Big Hero Six, Hercules, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. Check out the new trailer below:

Square Enix's E3 2018 presentation is scheduled for Monday, June 11 and there is a possibility that the company will release additional details and trailers for the upcoming game during its first E3 press briefing in three years.
