A new Disney app will try to make the worst part about visiting Disney theme parks, waiting in line for rides, a more fun and rewarding experience.

The app, named Play Disney Parks, is now available as a free download for the iOS and Android. Families who are planning a trip to a Disney theme park in the near future are recommended to install the app on their smartphones.

New App Tries To Solve Worst Part About Disneyland: Waiting Lines

Disney, showing knowledge that the worst part about visiting its theme parks are the long waiting lines, will try to partially solve the problem with a new app named Play Disney Parks.

Play Disney Parks looks to "turn wait time into play time" by offering theme park visitors games, quizzes, and unlockable achievements while visiting Disneyland in California or Walt Disney World in Florida.

Once launched, users will be able to choose whether they are in Disneyland or Walt Disney World. Users will then see an interactive map with colorful graphics and animations, with each white icon leading to a game. A white question mark icon opens up a quiz regarding the particular location on the map, while a white star will unlock an achievement after finishing the related attraction. For this purpose, the app requires location permissions granted and the smartphone's Bluetooth enabled.

There are also larger icons with unique images related to attractions, and tapping on them will allow users to play with other Play Disney Parks users while waiting in line.

The app will not require users to sign in with a Disney account, though using one will allow people to keep their achievements. Users will also be able to play pre-arranged streaming music playlists that are appropriate for Disney theme park visits.

The iOS and Android versions of the app can now be downloaded from the App Store and Play Store.

What's Next For Play Disney Parks App

Some parts of the app are not yet ready, such as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which will open in Disneyland in summer next year and in Walt Disney World in late fall next year. The Star Wars attractions were first announced in 2015, marking the start of Star Wars in Disney theme parks.

In the future, Disney will be adding more features to the app, and hopefully improvements as well. Early reports from users who have downloaded the app claimed that some features are not working properly, which Disney will hopefully fix soon.
