Wireless Chargin

Android 11 is officially out, but that is not what we're talking about today. It's the reverse charging from Google Pixel 5 that's been hitting the waves along with the release of Android 11.

Google Pixel 5 is set to be released this year and is promising to be one of the best iterations yet.

What are we talking about

XDA Developers has done it again and went diving into the Android 11 code and found gold.

It looks as though the Google Pixel 5 will be able to support reverse wireless charging, that is indeed good news for Google's flagship phone. The feature will be called "Battery share' in the Setting menu, and this will enable your Pixel 5 to charge your wireless earbuds, smartwatches wirelessly, and if you're generous enough, even phones.

Why the buzz

Okay, reverse wireless charging has already been done by its competitors like Samsung, but why the fuzz? It is really because of the former models of the PIxel, and it hasn't done it before. So why the change? Probably because of the times that more and more people are switching to smart gears and it's more of the modern trend now.

It' just a brief summary of what Battery share can do, also has a placeholder image that is taken straight from the Adaptive Battery page in the Settings menu in Google's phones. With that said, it's still in the early stages of the design, but it looks promising indeed.

What else to expect down the road

The activity name is stated with a "com.google.androi" and not the usual "com.android", it is a Google feature and not really a part of the Android Open Source Project to further show that it's just for the Pixel line up.

In the Java code of the Battery share feature, that actually flashes a toast message that states "can't Battery share while charging wireless!" if the device is charging wirelessly. This indeed makes sense because that would be very counter-productive to the use of it.

There's a method in the Java code of the new Battery share feature that flashes a toast message saying "can't Battery share while charging wireless!" if the device is currently wirelessly charging.

Juicy Rumours to Take Note

Google is releasing about three phones this year as we know of via their codenames, like "Redfin," "Sunfish," and "Bramble." However, only Redfin is stated to have the reverse charging feature among the code. Here is the screenshot of what we're talking about:

This further adds credence to the fact that the Google Pixel 5 might not be just your typical "flagship" phone but something else entirely, maybe a bigger batt to support the feature. Who knows?

What we do know is that Android 11 looks promising this year's Google line up is something to look forward to with great interest.
