Nintendo has finally revealed its lineup for the Nintendo Switch Online classic games this December. One of the games on the list is "Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble".

The launch completes the release of the "Donkey Kong Country" trilogy, after the first installment of the game was released on Nintendo Switch Online in July 2020.

Nintendo Switch completes game trilogy

Nintendo Switch Online is the replacement for Nintendo's virtual console. Even though it has seen the rerelease of video games like "Star Fox 2", the Nintendo Switch Online has been criticized by gamers for slowly drip-feeding games compared to the Virtual Console system introduced on the Wii and Wii U.

Now, Nintendo Switch Online is releasing SNES and NES games, but gamers want the titles from past systems like the Nintendo 64. There are also a lot of gamers that still wish to see Gamecube games be transferred over to the primary system.

The recent release of "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" includes three of the most iconic and well-known games on their systems, but there are still a lot of classic online games that gamers and fans of Nintendo are anticipating to play on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo has revealed that the Switch Online games for this month features different titles, including the "Donkey Kong Country 3" that fans have been waiting for, for months.

The other SNES games released include "The Ignition Factor", the "SUPER VALIS IV", and "Tuff E Nuff." A single NES game is also included in the December lineup, and it is "Nightshade Part 1: The Claws of Sutekh."

Despite Nintendo being able to complete the "Donkey Kong" game series, there are still massive SNES games that have yet to be released.

The SNES classic games include "Chrono Trigger" and "Super Mario RPG." Square Enix is known in the game community for being picky and careful with its properties, but "Super Mario RPG" was still included in the line-up when the SNES classic was released. It is possible that the game could still be released on Nintendo Switch Online.

Also, it is possible that the modern version of the Virtual Console will be adjusted in the future, gamers just don't know if it will be for better or if the change could be for the worse.

When it comes to changes, there are advantages and disadvantages. Games are drip-fed over the years, but it is still nice to be able to access dozens of them for a fixed price of a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Arguments have also been made on whether players can own their games if they are only able to access the games through a subscription service, and it is something that has increased in the recent years with systems like Google Stadia.

However, being able to play all three installments of the "Donkey Kong Country" trilogy on Nintendo Switches is something that is worth celebrating, especially for fans of classic games.

Donkey Kong Country trilogy

The original trilogy was introduced in 1982 and in 1994, Nintendo launched their own version of the game. The trilogy was transferred to Wii U's Virtual Console in February 2015 from the Virtual Console catalogue due to licensing issues.

In 2016, it was added to the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, in 2017 it was included in the Super NES Classic Edition and in July 2020, it was released on the Nintendo Switch for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, with the third of the series to be launched on December 18, 2020.
