Nintendo has announced that it will be holding a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The presentation will be aired directly over Nintendo's official website and its Twitch streaming page starting at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

The announcement was made over Nintendo of America's Twitter account, which says that the presentation will be given by Nintendo CEO and President Saturo Iwata. This marks the first time Iwata will be giving a Nintendo Direct presentation since his injury.

Nintendo also announced the online event on its official website, which says Iwata's presentation will focus on "the latest on spring 2015 Wii U and Nintendo 3DS releases."

No hints were made as to what new titles gamers can expect to hear about on Wednesday, but speculations abound. Among the new games that will possibly appear at the upcoming Nintendo Direct are the upcoming side-scroller games Mario Maker and Yoshi Wooly World as well as the third-person shooter Splatoon, featuring half-human, half-squid Inklings.

Also to be expected is the latest Kirby title, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse for the Wii U, which is scheduled for release in Japan on Jan. 22 and in the United States next month. Intelligent Systems' Code Name: STEAM, a turn-based strategy game starring Henry Fleming, a member of an elite force formed to defend the Earth against alien invasion, set in a steampunk version of London.

Lastly, Iwata could finally reveal the details for the release of the 3D version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the sixth installment in the very popular Legend of Zelda series, developed in 2000 for the Nintendo 64. More than 3 million copies of Majora's Mask were sold worldwide since its release.

It is also possible that Nintendo could finally provide information on when its New Nintendo 3DS will hit American markets. The latest iteration of Nintendo's handheld gaming system made its way to Japan and Australia last year. Europe is going to be next, with Nintendo offering the new 3DS in limited Ambassador Edition with customizable cover plates featuring a Super Smash Bros. theme for the console.

GameStop in Italy has also already started taking pre-orders for the new hardware, with prices at 170 euros for the entry-level smaller version and 200 euros for the bigger New Nintendo 3DS XL.

The New Nintendo 3DS features a more powerful CPU, an analog nub, old-school buttons, built-in NFC, and Amiibo support.
