After years and years of the Notepad staying the way it is, Microsoft is now giving it an update via the new Windows 11 operating system.

To be exact, the new Windows 11 update is now bringing emojis to Notepad along with more features such as a redesigned menu with different types of fonts.

Windows 11 to Add 'Emojis' to Notepad

According to the story by TechRadar, a new Windows 11 update allows users to "insert emoji icons into a Notepad file" along with other features. It has been pointed out in the report that Notepad has not really see any improvements and updates ever since 2006 when it received an update in order for the app to match with Microsoft's Windows Vista at that time.

Another addition that users can expect is Microsoft's dark mode, which brings a new look to the Notepad. The new feature also allows it to align with some other apps within the Windows 11 ecosystem.

In addition, Notepad is also getting a redesigned menu for users to select different types of fonts.

How to Add Emojis to Notepad

The new updates have been initially released as part of the recent Windows 11 feature update, which had also brought users the ability to try out certain Android apps within the Microsoft Store. To elaborate, Microsoft's Principle Software Engineer Murray Sargent gave more details of the new Windows 11 in a recent blog post.

Per the blog post, Sargent shared the company's efforts when it comes to moving Notepad to Windows 11 along with new features like emoji support. In order to unlock the emoji menu, users have to click on the Windows key as well as the "full stop" key at the same time so that the emoji menu will appear on the Notepad.

With the new emoji menu, users will be able to insert animals, reactions, signs, and much more to a document.

What Microsoft Notepad is Usually Used for

Notepad is mostly popular for users who like to jot down certain lists or quick information, which are then usually transferred to either a Google Doc or Microsoft Word later on.

Microsoft, however, is putting in more effort in order to create a more modern Notepad for the newer Windows 11. The new updates are also helping Notepad to become more than just a tool for simple notes and lists, according to the report by TechRadar.
