"Halo Infinite" could be getting new story content in the future, if a recently spotted job listing is any indication.

According to Windows Central, the aforementioned job posting is suggesting plans for seasonal story content alongside updates for the game's free-to-play multiplayer mode. However, it is still unclear in what form it might come.

The recent job posting is reportedly looking for a new writing director to work at 343 Industries. It was recently put up by Microsoft on its careers page, where it clearly states that it's looking for a new writing director.

As per the posting, the writing director will be collaborating directly with the Head of Creative for "Halo Infinite," and will be co-responsible for creating "highly innovative and engaging, serial narrative content for "Halo Infinite" multiplayer.

The writing director will also be responsible for hiring, managing, and mentoring a writing team, as well as making stuff like scripts for cinematics, character sheets, and even reactive AI dialog.

NME also posted about another job offering calling for a "monetization designer," which was posted last month. The responsibilities of the designer, as per the job posting, will be to "focus on in-game initiatives to drive player engagement and long-term player progression." Aside from that, the job indicates that 343 is also looking at a so-called "player-first store and monetization model."

Master Chief stands guard at the Liechtenstein border during the HALO 4 launch by Xbox 360 on October 29, 2012 in Balzers, Liechtenstein. Xbox 360 became the only brand to ever transform the Principality of Liechtenstein by taking over iconic landmarks, including a 13th century castle to create a real-life 'Halo' universe within the heart of Europe. Halo 4 on the Xbox will be launched on November 6, 2012.

What this could mean is that 343 Industries and Microsoft are looking to milk "Infinite's" free-to-play multiplayer in a kind of games-as-a-service format, which has been the domain of other competitive shooters like "Fortnite."

"Infinite" released its free-to-play multiplayer in a surprise launch last year ahead of the main release. Many players and critics applauded it, mostly praising it for its ability to deliver a classic "Halo" multiplayer experience, excellent map design, and engaging game modes targeting large and small player groups.

Will This Be A New Age For 'Halo Infinite' Multiplayer?

While the free-to-play multiplayer for "Infinite" has been largely well-received, it wasn't always smooth sailing. Adding some seasonal story content to it could definitely change things and make it far more interesting, because recent times haven't been kind.

Among the most controversial things that 343 did with the "Infinite" multiplayer involved store pricing for cosmetics content, which players thought were a bit outrageous, as reported by GameSpot. In response to the backlash, the developers quickly reneged and announced a lowering of prices.

But whether the rumored seasonal story content for the live-service multiplayer mode will add anything substantial is still up in the air. As per the job posting, however, it requires potential hires to ensure that the content will both be "leveraging existing 'Halo' lore" and will be adding "exciting new chapters" to the game's overarching narrative.

In truth, adding a narrative element to a competitive multiplayer sounds like something "Overwatch" has done for several years now. The only uncertain thing is whether this will even work with "Infinite's" multiplayer at all. But only time will tell.
