Karpathy is not only the Tesla AI Director. He also serves as one of the founding members of OpenAI, as well as a well-known expert in Deep Learning, as per a news story by Teslarati.

Elon Musk: Tesla AI Director is on a 4-Month Leave

Elon Musk said in a tweet responding to the release of the Full Self Driving Beta system in Canada that the AI Director of Tesla is on leave.

The Senior Director of AI in Tesla, Karpathy, has recently confirmed the revelation of Musk, saying that he is currently on a sabbatical leave that would last for four months.

Karpathy said in a Twitter post that he is actually "taking some time off to rest and travel." He went on to note that he has been working with Tesla for the past five years already.

According to the LinkedIn profile of Karpathy, he has been working as the Senior Director of AI at Tesla since June 2017 up until the present, making his overall stay span up to 4 years and 10 months.

The Tesla director added in his tweet that he is using his four-month sabbatical leave from the EV maker to have some "focused time," wherein he plans to increase in skills and knowledge.

Karpathy further wrote that he would be missing both the GPU/Dojo clusters and robots, which he will be leaving behind as he takes a couple of months off from work.

On top of that, the AI Director of the giant EV maker is already looking forward to the day that he will be interacting with them once again.

Tesla AI Director Andrej Karpathy's Comeback

Teslarati noted in the same report that once the four-month-long leave of the Tesla AI director concludes, he will be back on Tesla with massive projects that would be taking on.

It includes the much-awaited deployment of the Dojo Supercomputer, which will be used to train both the Full Self Driving and Autopilot of Tesla.

What's more, the Hardware 4.0 is also set to be rolled out, which will be used for the upcoming electric pickup of Tesla, the Cybertruck.
