Google Maps is adding some new features to help make the Maps app more useful to both pedestrians and drivers. These features include icons indicating traffic lights or stop signs and even toll information.

Google Maps Adds New Features to Help Users Make Better Decisions

According to the story by PhoneArena, Google Maps is adding new features that aim to help users make better decisions as to which route to take. These include features like toll information telling a user how much they have to pay should they decide to drive through.

The new feature also helps users calculate how much they need to spend on a trip (due to toll fees) before even embarking on the trip. As per Google, the info comes directly from local tolling authorities, saying they get the estimated toll to help users make decisions.

Toll Information Also Includes Expected Price and Option to Get a Route that Avoids Tolls

Google also stated that they are looking at certain factors that help users know how much they are expected to pay. These factors even place into account the day of the week since this could potentially affect toll fees.

The new update to Google Maps also gives users information regarding which roads are toll-free. In order to access this feature, users will have to click the three-dot menu located in the upper right corner and click on "avoid tolls" to gain access to a route without tolls.

Toll Prices to Roll Out for Users in India, Indonesia, Japan, and the United States

The toll prices will start to show for both iOS and Android users of Google Maps in India, Indonesia, Japan, and the United States. The data expected to show on the app includes 2,000 toll roads, with more countries expected to be added soon.

Aside from tolls, Google is also adding new details, which include traffic lights and stop sign indicators helping users know when a stop sign is located nearby or when they should prepare to stop.

Google to Make Use of Google Maps Through Easier Pinned Widget

For Apple users, Google is making the use of Google Maps much easier with a pinned widget that allows users to access their pinned trips from the "Go" tab. The widget shows users their expected arrival time, next departures, and even a suggestion as to which road to take if driving.

In order to gain access to the new widgets, users have to make sure they are running the latest version of Google Maps on their iOS devices. To add, Google Maps aims to integrate Siri, Spotlight, and the Shortcuts app for iOS users.

This means users will be able to access Google Maps through a simple "Hey Siri, get directions" once the necessary shortcuts have been set up. Other alternatives also include "Hey Siri, search in Google Maps" to get information directly from the app.
