Sony's redesigned PS Plus finally arrives for North American consumers by merging both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into one suitably understandable three-tiered package. The service is sectioned off into three different tiers, Essential, Extra, and Premium, the latter two of which act more akin to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, featuring tons of games from PlayStation's past.

The subscription pricing will see PS Plus Essential costing $9.99 a month and $59.99 a year, PS Plus Extra costing $14.99 a month and $99.99 a year, and PS Plus Premium costing $17.99 a month and $119.99 a year. Those that already have a PS Plus account but don't subscribe to PS Now will be retroactively settled into Essential, whereas existing Now subscribers will be put into Extra.

Nothing much changes for users when it comes to Essential, as the subscription service offers long-existing features, like free monthly PS Plus games, cloud saves, exclusive discounts, share play capabilities, multiplayer access, and much more. Every tier after will utilize a catalog of games, with PS Plus Extra subscribers receiving nearly 400 first and third-party PS4 and PS5 experiences, and PS Plus Premium seeing the extended list of classics from the likes of the original PlayStation, PS2, PSP, and cloud-streamable PS3 titles.

Earlier reports suggested that classic games would be running on the PAL versions, which means the games will run at 50 Hz. Luckily, North American audiences will get the more enhanced 60 Hz versions of the classic titles, ensuring games are crisp and look fantastic on modern consoles despite the age gap.

Check out the official PS Plus website for more information on both pricing and games available through the new service.
