Lyft removes 60 employees from their posts, and this is part of the company's consolidation of global efforts, as well as abolishing the rental car service that it previously offered to the public. The layoffs in Lyft are only two percent of its entire staff, and the restructuring is not as much as other tech companies; still, it joins the list of those that also saw staff reduction in its ranks.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 20: A sign for Lyft is posted in the ride share lot at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on August 20, 2020 in Los Angeles, California.

It is time to face the music for several Lyft employees, which were recently removed from their posts and are forced to look for other jobs that are not with the famous ride-hailing application. According to the Wall Street Journal's report, former Lyft employees portrayed on their LinkedIn posts that they are already seeking new employment.

The company is set to bring its second quarter reports to the world in two weeks, and these layoffs come at a convenient time for the company that removes almost an entire department from its ranks. Now, there are no more car rental services available on the company's services, and no more employees are here to address its service.

What's Happening on Lyft? Employees Are Seeking Opportunities

The report said that employees were given notices regarding their layoffs and were not immediately axed from the company, unlike alleged reports from other tech companies. Multiple posts by three different employees regarding their unemployment status and looking for new job opportunities and LinkedIn confirm the series of employee expulsions from the company.

Lyft Joins Tech Companies' Lay Offs

Lyft is not the only one on the recent employee layoffs in the industry, and many tech companies are also thinning their staff, and there are many things to attribute it to, with different reasons for each. One would be with Tesla and its recent shutdown of the San Mateo Autopilot office, where 200 employees met their fate from their tenure with the company.

However, they are not the only ones, as Alibaba and Tencent were also forced to fire several employees from their companies due to a regulatory crackdown that resulted in this event. Another one in the tech and gaming industry is the famous game engine developer Unity, which also joins the club in removing hundreds of employees from its 3,000-people workforce.

These happenings are not isolated or limited to one company only, as there are a lot of corporations and entities that do it now. Employees face the need to cope in this trying time and need to look for their fallback, especially as the world still sees hardship amidst the presence of the virus and a rising case of inflation that took over this year.
