There is now a lane dedicated to Tesla at a US-Mexico border a few miles from Laredo, Texas. Elon Musk's firm has made a deal with one of the pro-business states in Mexico, but the details about the deal remain unclear.

Ivan Rivas, the economy minister of Nuevo León said that they want is a crossing that is more expedited and efficient. They are also hopeful that there will be a lane for other companies in the future.

The lane at the Colombia Solidarity checkpoint will help Tesla supplies quicken their crossing between US and Mexico. Although the checkpoint is one of the less popular there is, it will still be helpful for Tesla suppliers.

The lane is also part of an expansion of the border crossing wherein Nuevo León brings the total number of lanes from six to eight. Now, six of Tesla's suppliers now have business in the state, n increase from zero before 2021.

Nobody Knows?

However, Gizmodo got in touch with the US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) for southern Texas. The officer, Rick Pauza, was initially unaware of the new Tesla lane over the phone. He said that he hadn't heard of the change through mentioning that the Defend Trade Secrets Act might prevent him from discussing any details about it.

Pauza also made a follow-up to his statement and said that CBP would not be able to speak on behalf of the Government of Mexico or anything on the Mexico side of the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge.

An excerpt from the email reads, "I checked with Laredo US Customers and Border Protection trade operations management, and aside from the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program and the dedicated lane for FAST participants, and the normal northbound cargo lands, that is all that is available for northbound commercial trucks."

He also clarified that there is no dedicated Tesla lane for passenger vehicles on the US northbound side of the border. With that, it seems that only Mexican side of the border crossing is offering Tesla that special treatment.

In 2021, Musk relocated its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas. However, the Texas Tesl factory doesn't seem to be doing well, but Musk has succeeded in the new location. In fact, he even applied for permits to build an underground, private transportation tunnel beneath the facility.

Tesla hasn't spoken up about this new lane and the details of the Mexico deal is still unclear.
