TikTok is exploring the music streaming service following the 'TikTok Music' trademark filing. Here's what we know so far.

We all know that TikTok is a popular platform for video content creators, especially for Gen Z and Millenials in general. Aside from entertainment purposes, do you know it might soon expand its service to music listeners? According to the latest report, ByteDance is exploring "TikTok Music," the trademark filing suggests.

If this is approved in the future, it could soon compete with Spotify and Apple Music.

TikTok is exploring the music streaming service following the 'TikTok Music' trademark filing.

As Insider reported last week, ByteDance has hinted at its desire to launch a music streaming service for TikTok users. The so-called "TikTok Music" is seen on the trademark application submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The platform is like the usual music-centered service we are using now. You can play a song and share your playlist with your friends and colleagues.

TikTok Music could also be a platform where you can live stream audio and clips, as well as upload photos for your playlist cover. Additionally, you can also leave a comment on a particular song or album.

So far, we only know that ByteDance already launched Resso in 2020. Although this music streaming app has existed for more than two years, it's limited to select countries, including Indonesia, India, and Brazil.

According to The Information, ByteDance saw as of November 2021 that more than 40 million users have been using Resso across the three countries.

Earlier this year, the monthly number of Resso users in India alone exponentially increased by 304% from January 2021 to January 2022. During the same time, Spotify only recorded a 38% increase in the number of active users.

Will TikTok Music Base its Features on Resso?

The trademark application indicates that TikTok Music could allegedly have some features that Resso currently has, including community interaction and the ability to share songs with other listeners.

However, it's not yet clear why ByteDance would produce another music streaming app this time. The company submitted the trademark application in Australia. It was later filed in the United States on May 9, per Engadget.

Furthermore, the parent firm said that TikTok Music could be a platform where you could "live stream audio and video interactive media programming in the field of entertainment, fashion, sports, and current events."

Previously, Tech Times reported that TikTok's SoundOn platform could provide more support for unsigned artists who want their music to be heard by many people.

This particular platform is a great boost for aspiring musicians since they can upload their songs and license them for commercial and public use.

Other than that, the singers can also freely distribute their craft to other music websites so they can reach out to more audiences who are looking for fresh beats and songs.
