NEW YORK, NY - MAY 20: People attend a two-day pop-up event hosted by Instagram highlighting small businesses at Chelsea Triangle on May 20, 2022 in New York City. Instagram @shop features over 1,000 small business brands from around the world and has crossed the 1 million threshold just before its 3rd anniversary.

Meta's Brand Rights Protection Tool

Based on a report from The Verge, Meta just introduced its new tools for brands to report potential IP violations in a much more convenient way. Through Meta's Brand Rights Protection tool, several brands can flag content that violates their intellectual property, such as trademark violations, copyright infringement, fake or counterfeit products, and impersonation.

Companies will be getting much quicker results than before as this will also automatically take down posts after Meta reviews the report. Both Facebook and Instagram will have this new tool.

Meta stated in their announcement, "To protect the integrity of our systems and prevent misuse of this feature, we will regularly audit takedown requests and may consider additional factors to determine eligibility."

This tool also integrates with Meta's existing Graph API. Through this, Social Media Today reported that it allows authorized API users to securely fill out the fields that already exist in the Ip reporting forms. This process is more efficient as it also allows users to report content at a scale and is more streamlined.

Previous Added Features

Meta has been adding more tools for Brand Rights Protection as it helps them identify and report several violations on both platforms. This tool can be accessed in Business Manager and can be used to search for potential violations, track the report status, and add evidence to the report itself.

Aside from this, Meta also added several new features previously to protect the rights of these brands around the platform. This includes removing the friction that automates taking down posts, uploading a list of authorized accounts, and automated recommendations.

The functionality of the search bar was also updated this year as there are more ways provided to search violations like URLs and IDs, as well as widening the search coverage of posts through Facebook Groups, Pages, and Profiles.

Reporting options were also improved as Meta added impersonation reporting, where a certain brand can report infringing ads and posts for impersonation or for counterfeit, trademark, or copyright infringement. Lastly, Meta has been providing a more transparency dashboard, which shows the last action made by the brand for the last 90 days.
