The Federal Communications Commission is yet again pushing for TikTok's ban in the United States, and this new legal action against the famous social media platform is a move against its data access. It points to TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, who allegedly mishandles the data and information of US-based users with access to said content.

The FCC Commissioner intends to place a ban on TikTok due to their data access to American users, something which may affect and bring potential risk to political operations in the US.

Axios revealed that FCC Commissioner, Brandon Carr, one of the five heads of the regulatory agency, spoke out regarding another TikTok ban in the US for its continued access to data and information. The FCC is voicing out its concerns regarding TikTok, but cannot move directly against the platform without Congress.

Carr's concerns center on TikTok's ban as the only way forward, especially in securing the data and information of US content creators and users who regularly use the app.

In the United States alone, there are as many as 200 million downloads and usage of the famed short word social media, centering on its role as an information infrastructure.

US, TikTok, and ByteDance

According to CNET, Carr went as far as to say that TikTok is mishandling personal and sensitive user data from the United States, something which roots in its Chinese company, ByteDance. Further operations of the app in the country may greatly affect the United States' future, especially with access to data that may pose significant security risks.

TikTok's Access to Data

There has been a dispute on TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, with the United States before, as the previous administration planned to place a ban on the short video app with its data access in the country. This was previously fixed with Oracle's intervention, with the company handling data and information in the United States.

Confirmations from TikTok's Chinese employees confirmed that they had access to US data, and it was a massive dispute over the company's provisions for operating in the country.

Since then, TikTok has been treading lightly as one wrong move could place their app inaccessible in the US, and it is a massive loss for them as many users come from America and nearby regions.

Plans regarding taking action on TikTok's access to US data were the center of previous reports in the past weeks and months, but there is no definitive changes since its move to Oracle's data centers.

Now, the FCC and one of its commissioners are pushing for another ban on the platform due to its access to US data which violates the agreement and provisions set upon them. Carr's testimony centers on the increasing national security concerns and risks for TikTok's continued operation in the country, as United States' user data are in danger.
