Riot Games begins the migration period for League of Legends and TeamFight Tactics accounts from Garena.

On Nov. 9, Riot Games revealed that they would be taking over the publishing of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia (SEA), which Garena initially handled since the launch of its servers. However, due to their contract ending next year on January 2023, Riot Games has created their self-published server.

Starting Nov. 18, players will now be able to migrate their League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics accounts to Riot, and here's how.

Garena Account Requirements Before Migrating to Riot

According to Riot's official guide for account migration, players need first to verify if their account is eligible through these factors for both League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics:

  • Must have proof of data progression
    • Garena accounts you wish to connect to a Riot account must have any form of account progressions such as champion masteries, match histories, RP purchases, skin unlocks, and more.
  • Check your Riot and Garena account shard/regions to see if they match
    • Region lock exists to some extent in Riot accounts, as different regions cannot exist in one Riot account. If you try to connect to a new Account or to an account with no connected League of Legends account, its shard will automatically convert to match your Garena account's shard.
    • Players can check their Garena account's shard in the Personal Information tab in Account Management.

How To Migrate Garena Account to Riot's SEA Server

Once you have checked your account's requirements, you may now begin migrating your account data. Here are the steps you can follow to link your Garena account to your Riot account:

  • Head over to Riot Game's official migration site.
  • Press the "Start Linking" button. This will redirect you to a Garena log-in page.
  • Log in to your Garena account. Logging in will redirect you to a Riot account login page.
  • Log in to the Riot Account you want to link your Garena account to. You can also create a new Riot account to connect to.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Press Link Accounts after checking the account details. Your account is officially linked after this step.

What Comes Next After the Riot Migration Process?

Once you link your Garena account to your Riot account, you will be able to receive an email detailing that your account migration has been processed. After linking, players will need to wait until the migration fully begins in early January 2023.

After the migration begins, the following resources will transfer over from your Garena account to your Riot account:

  • Emotes
  • Skins
  • Champions
  • Tacticions
  • Booms
  • TFT Boards
  • Icons
  • Blue and Orange Essence
  • RP
  • Star Shards
  • Loot Inventory

Additionally, Riot will reward players with an additional loot bonus equivalent to the value of their cosmetic content after the account transfer, according to One Esports. As a celebration of the Riot migration, League of Legends SEA players will also be able to own all champions by completing a set of missions when the new server launches.
