In Samsung's Keynote at CES 2023, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Jaeyon Jung, announced the latest device from the South Korean tech manufacturer's push for the smart home.

This is the new SmartThings Station, a Matter-compatible smart home hub that allows users to control and manage different appliances and technologies at home, under one device.

The SmartThings Station is a plug-and-play hub that immediately finds a Samsung smartphone nearby to connect and be the master control for compatible devices.

The smart hub also features a Qi wireless charging pad on top to replenish depleted batteries, cable-free.

According to Samsung's news release, this smart home hub will enable users to manage their devices with their smartphone, and create multiple settings for different experiences like bedtime, movie nights, and different setups one wants for the house.

SmartThings Station for Matter

The SmartThings Station aims for an interconnected home under one device, with the smartphone being the central control for all. The hub would communicate with all Matter-compatible devices including refrigerators, washers, air conditioners, lights, speakers, and more.

Users may also utilize Samsung smartphone cameras to scan the QR codes on different appliances to connect with the SmartThings Station for easier access.

Samsung and Matter

Back in 2021, a collection of the Big Tech companies in the world had formed an alliance and set aside their differences in creating one of the most ambitious technologies for the smart home. That system is Matter, a universal home protocol where different innovations and devices can come together in one technological ecosystem.

However, it saw an unfortunate delay for its devices and technology to arrive, but after a long wait, it finally launched in mid-2022 for the world to use.

The good thing is that it does not matter what smartphone you own, whether it came from Samsung, Apple, or Google, it will allow all to control Matter-enabled devices to manage appliances and tech at home.

Samsung is a part of Matter, and this is massive as the South Korean giant is also famous for its home appliances and other technology, globally famous for what it offers. Its latest unveiling of the SmartThings Station at CES 2023 brings a lot of possibilities for users, especially in interconnectivity and control for all of Matter, also doubling as a wireless charging hub for smartphones.
