Steam has once again set a new record for the number of users that are simultaneously signed in. Yet, this time, it is not only the number of Steam users that has increased; the number of PC platform users is now at an all-time high.

Major Step Forward

According to GamesRadar's reporting, over 30 million people logged onto Steam this weekend, with Steam DB counting 10,082,055 "in-game" players and 32,186,301 users overall.

IGN reported that the most popular game among these millions was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with 1.08 million players online at the same time. DOTA 2 came in second with 766,096 players, followed by Goose Goose Duck with 605,694 players, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) with 439,944, and Apex Legends with 243,944. (367,585).

This record was accomplished at the end of a particularly large sale on Steam, which occurred after the Christmas season. Not only that, it arrives at a period with no critically acclaimed new games.

Past Achievements

Steam's records tend to be smashed during holidays and weekends, according to GamesRadar, when many of us are free from our regular obligations and can devote more time to gaming.

The global trend toward increased use of Steam started three years ago, in January 2020. This was when the world began to self-isolate in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

On Feb. 2, 2019, Steam hit an all-time high of 18,801,944 users by an astounding 300,000. It beat the previous record of 18,537,490 users, established in January 2018.

It has since been surpassed several times, most notably during a weekend in March 2020 when participation reached 20 million for the first time, followed by a turnout of 22 million a week later.

Constant users peaked at 27.1 million at the start of the year, up from 26.5 million in February 2021 and 24.7 million in December 2020.

In late October of last year, the PC platform reached 30 million concurrent users for the first time. In November 2022, Steam broke its own record for the biggest number of simultaneous players recorded online twice in a single day.

Steam in Tesla EVs

In December 2022, it was reported that Elon Musk's electric vehicle (EV) company is finally adding Tesla Steam compatibility.

With the release of the "Holiday Update," Tesla EVs now have access to Steam. Notably, the integration makes hundreds of games available in certain models of massive Tesla vehicles.

PC Mag previously wrote that the Musk-owned EV manufacturer does not use Windows in its infotainment system. Therefore, it utilizes Linux-based Steam integration. True to form, it is an identical twin to the one introduced on the Steam Deck.
