IKEA introduced a new smart indoor air quality sensor that complements the home store's existing range of smart solutions. This will gauge particulate matter levels, humidity, temperature, and gaseous pollutants.

Clean indoor air is essential to our wellbeing, and one of the first steps to better air is increased awareness of indoor pollutants. The new VINDSTYRKA air quality sensor allows measuring and monitoring of indoor air pollutant levels, complementing the existing IKEA range of smart solutions that enable better air quality in the home.

Launching Vindstyrka

Vindstyrka has a large display for users to check how the device measures and monitors indoor air pollutant levels. Engadget reported that this would work thoroughly with the help of IKEA's application to access the monitor control.

The air quality monitor measures particle matter, humidity, temperature, and total volatile organic compound levels. Aside from this, it gives a rating on display with green, yellow, and red levels.

IKEA Product Owner Henrik Telander stated that people spend most of their time indoors, and some need to remember indoor air pollution. This comes from small everyday activities like cooking or cleaning that have the same effect on poor air quality outdoors.

"With VINDSTYRKA, our ambition has been to create an affordable, high-performing air quality sensor to help our customers become more aware of the quality of the air they breathe in their homes," he added.

Compatibility

Vindstyrka works perfectly with IKEA's new Matter-enabled Dirigera smart hub for connectivity with HomeKit. Users can also check their readings on their smartphones through other popular smart home platforms.

But through IKEA Home smart app, users can enable the device to trigger other smart devices to make the air quality levels actionable. While this will work on its own, Vindstyrka can be used to enhance the capabilities of the smart air purifier Starkvind.

Connecting the two devices enables the fan speed to be automatically adjusted in correlation with the amount of PM2.5 in the air to ensure that indoor air is always clean.

Pricing and Launch

Currently, IKEA still needs to reveal the price for the Vindstyrka air quality monitor that will launch in April through its website and retail stores. Consumers may expect the cost of similar products like Eve Room Go for $99. But as per 9To5Mac, IKEA leans toward more affordable prices.

IKEA's Efforts for Air Pollution

The World Health Organization reported that 9 out of 10 people globally breathe polluted air. Staying indoors may prevent sickness, but indoor air pollution can just be polluted as the air outside since many underestimate the risks of air pollution inside their houses.

This is why IKEA launched this new product, to give everyone access to clean air by increasing awareness of indoor air pollution. Vindstryka will help consumers to improve the air they breathe.

Telander wants to work for positive change, as there is no single solution to this problem. Yet he said, "We strive to offer a variety of products and smart solutions that increase awareness of indoor air pollution and allow people to make the right changes for a home with cleaner air."
