As the vehicle is now finally close to production, Tesla has shown off its first accessory for the Cybertruck during an event in Texas, a custom-made tool rack that fits on the bed of the electric pickup truck.

Increasing lithium refining capacity is critical to a sustainable energy economy—today, we're breaking ground on our in-house lithium refinery outside of Corpus Christi, TX.

Unveiling New Tool Rack

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk arrived at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Tesla Lithium Refinery in Texas, riding the Cybertruck that consists of a custom-made tool rack. According to a report from Electrek, the automaker has been arranging additional accessories that it plans to make for the electric pickup truck.

Although that plant was already four years ago, and Tesla has not elaborated on that subject since the delay of the Cybertruck program, the appearance of the pickup truck with a new accessory might be one of the company's teasers for the upcoming vehicle, especially that it is now finally close to production.

Tesla showed what is possible with the new accessory. The new tool rack enables a way to lay things flat on the roof or bed of the vehicle, which makes other accessories compatible with the Cybertruck. During the event, CEO Musk and Texas Governor Greg Abbott used the two shovels carried by the tool rack.

The shovels were attached at two separate points and secured with some locking mechanism. But based on how the CEO removed the shovels, anyone could have removed them as they were not completely locked. But this might be intentional to keep the ceremony smooth and easy.

First Official Cybertruck Accessory?

Many Tesla fans were already hoping that this was the first glimpse of the company of the first official Cybertruck accessory. However, Drive Tesla reported that this might be specifically made for today's event and may not proceed into production, which Tesla Powertrain and Energy Engineering Senior Vice President Drew Baglino confirmed in an interview.

When Baglino was asked if the company was going to make the accessory for all Cybertruck customers or can be purchased separately, he only answered that he still does not know if this will happen. He did confirm though that Tesla is making lots of accessories for the upcoming vehicle but declined to provide details on what those could be.

Slash Gear reported that there is still a question mark if Tesla will proceed with its Q3 2023 Construction Schedule for the Cybertruck as the production has been halted several times already. Because of this, it is unlikely to see many Cybertrucks on the road this year.

Earlier this year during an earnings call, Musk stated that production would begin later this summer at the earliest. But this would still stake a while to scale things up and actual mass production will not likely happen before 2024.
