Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and instead of creating a special commemorative ICE car, the company chose to unveil a new electric hypercar concept called the Mission X.

It was on June 8, 1948 that the first Porsche prototype with chassis number 356-001 received its general operating permit. Revealed at the "75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars" anniversary show on Thursday, Mission X is a 900-volt hypercar that embodies the company's past, present, and future.

It is a technology beacon for the future sports car focusing on electrification. With Porsche's unveiling of the Mission X, the company is setting out to break records. The car is not meant for production yet but was reportedly designed to break the Nürburgring lap record. Mercedes-AMG One is currently the fastest road-legal vehicle in Nürburgring Nordschleife history.

"The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts," said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

Porsche Mission X Is its Craziest Electric Hypercar Yet

Porsche Mission X is a 2-door roadster with LeMans-style doors. It is a relatively compact hypercar that measures approximately 4.5 meters long and two meters wide.

It has the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, with a wheelbase of 2.73 meters. It also features a one PS per kilogram power-to-weight ratio and a fast-charging 900-volt architecture that is better than the Taycan Turbo S.

Porsche and its Legacy

Undeniably, Porsche brings some of the best performance and motorsport vehicles in the market, paired with its iconic German engineering and unparalleled developments for its cars.

Among its most iconic models is the Porsche 911, a.k.a. the Carrera, and it has been one of the longest-production vehicles of the company, which recently celebrated its 70 years in America.

And while its ICE cars are the company's most iconic models, a fully-electric sports car was introduced in the past years known as the Porsche Taycan. The Taycan will soon be enhanced with a triple-motor configuration that will bring more power to the EV.

Porsche said Mission X would be quick to recharge, possibly with a recharging time of about 10 minutes. It was reportedly designed to charge more than twice as fast as the Taycan Turbo S, which has an 800 V battery pack that can go from 5 to 80% state of charge in just 22.5 minutes.
