A new patch was released by Apple for the recently available iOS 16.5, and this fix comes in at a new update version called iOS 16.5.1 that centers on fixing security flaws. Two exploits were reported to Apple and made known to the public, and the company recognized these flaws, with this update set to fix and protect users.

While this small patch may be something that users may ignore, it is highly recommended to update to the latest release from Apple to avoid substantial risks in the future.

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 20: An Apple employee helps a customers shop for the new iPhone 11 at Apple's flagship 5th Avenue store on September 20, 2019 in New York City. Apple's new iPhone 11 goes on sale today at the grand re-opening of the 5th Avenue store.

Apple's latest release brings new information about iOS 16.5.1 and the iPadOS 16.5.1, and this was after the company received notices from several security experts and researchers regarding this flaw. The company said that after receiving many notices from researchers, they have investigated the issue, and created an update that would prevent the further exploitation of this bug.

The Cupertino giant also included this on the list of security updates, both under the latest iOS 16.5 update.

A pair of exploits are now resolved by Apple, and according to 9to5 Mac, the first one centers on a vulnerability that allows executing arbitrary code with kernel privileges, and the other is a WebKit flaw that stops malicious web content from executing codes.

Here's Why You Should Update

Both of these security flaws are putting your devices at risk, particularly for iPhones and iPads, with the vulnerability having the capability to execute codes without permission and the user's knowledge. It is important to download and update to iOS 16.5.1 immediately to avoid unforeseen risks that may steal information or access sensitive ones in the said devices.

Apple's iOS Updates

There are still no announcements from Apple as to when the iOS 16 would stop releasing new upgrades, particularly as iOS 17 is right around the corner for all. Still, there are significant features that Apple delivered for the current operating system, particularly that of the iOS 16.5 which was recently in the beta and is now available for public release.

Apple devices are not entirely safe from the different exploits or threats hanging around in the tech industry, especially as threat actors find many ways in hacking a user and getting their hands on sensitive information. It is important to observe good practices for smartphones, including the use of two-factor authentication tools for iOS 16.

While this latest patch may seem like something that may be ignored by users, it is integral not to skip this update to ensure that one's device, data, and information are secure at all times. Apple recommends to immediately install the patch and fix the heavily-exploited bugs to protect one's devices against threat actors who widely know about these entry points.
